EARTH ILLUSIONS

By S. B.

EFFERVESCENT, evanescent,
Gaily tripping on their way,
Seeking pleasure, as a treasure
Ever to be sought.

Of the heartstrings, making playthings,
Lessons dearly bought!
In their sowing, little knowing
Someday they must reap.

Comes the harvest, in the twilight,
Empty shells, no sheaves they garner;
Night is falling, fear appalling
Children tempest tost.

Cold and lonely, crying only
Save us! We are lost.
Sin has taught us, pain has brought us
Back, our God, to Thee.

Effervescent, evanescent,
Earth’s illusions soon must pass;
All in pleasure, all its treasure
Bubbles for a day.

Dawns the morning, sounds the warning,
“Christ shall lead the way.”
Shepherd wake them! Shepherd take them!
Into pastures green.

THE LAW OF MIND AND ACTION

AS WE draw nearer to Spirit, Spirit draws nearer to us.
“And behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadows
Keeping watch over His own!”
