THERE are more than a few prominent leaders who have had some unusual inner experiences that these leaders they were chosen to do a great work for humanity, to be leaders and teachers of others; not realizing that to be a teacher who can wisely instruct and lead trusting souls requires much study and training and many years of careful preparation. Yet these would-be leaders rush into such work, start movements, and, because of their claims, backed by their strange experiences that excite the wonder of their fellows, many believe them to be chosen ones and follow them blindly, as long as they are fed with the same kind of tales and teachings.

We grant that such leaders may have been sincere in their beliefs at first, but surely they learned before long that they were sadly misguided into believing they could truly help others when there were so many things lacking in themselves that first had to be learned and proven.

One of the greatest delusions is when one thus opens to the psychic realm and there learns for the first time of its wonders, meets there a supposed teacher who expounds many things before unknown; and then the newborn psychic, inspired by his supposed teacher, attempts to aid others to enter that realm, thinking it a spiritual attainment and all can be similarly “blessed” by doing as he did. When the fact is, there is nothing spiritual about such psychic quickening, and instead it is a definite hindrance to real spiritual growth; for usually it is a result of some strong emotional disturbance, such as worry, brooding, or a feeling of desperation, perhaps accentuated by using the Ouija board, practicing Automatic Writing, or sitting in development circles, in efforts to find relief from the distressing conditions connected with the disturbance.

Such people when thus opening the door to the inner world, often there meet those who do not hesitate to take advantage of their ignorance and to deceive and mislead them to their own selfish ends. In many such cases the intelligences on the other side become the real teachers, merely using as instruments these newly created psychics through which to give forth their high-sounding but often far-fetched doctrines. Knowing the objection of many students to psychic things, they decry the psychic world and call their teaching methods and realm highly spiritual, and thus deluding these students as they deluded their instruments they lead them
