The Inner Life

not physical forms and lives, except as means for teaching the lessons the souls of men need to learn. Human personalities are only garments put on and off while souls are learning these lessons. Physical life and death to Them are but as day and night—times of expression and rest. Therefore, the physical acts of mortal expression are to Them of little moment; the spiritual lessons to be learned are Their chief concern, and to which all Their efforts with souls are directed.

For to Them spiritual growth is the only growth, and the only thing that matters. Everything in life is utilized to stimulate and assist that growth in every soul on earth. Therefore They judge and grade all souls according to their state of spiritual unfoldment. Remembering that the spiritual unfoldment of a soul is determined by its understanding and love of God, you can now see how comparatively few old souls there are in the world—that the vast majority are still infants, that almost all others are children spiritually, and that those who are matured and truly spiritual, through a conscious and proven understanding and love of God, may reach only a few hundred thousands, possibly a million or so.

But these Great Ones are responsible for all of humanity; not one soul is unconsidered and not under Their loving care—even the very young and backward souls which we call evil. All are watched over and helped whenever possible, teaching them when they least know it spiritual truths, which naturally they do not recognize as such. In the end all of course will be brought out of the darkness of self into the light and love of God.

That as you can well imagine will take many ages to consummate. In the meantime, each term a new class graduates and enters the Kingdom to go no more out, all
