The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1934
For can you not see, that force was trying to get control of her consciousness—her soul—and through controlling it, it could drive it from its instrument—the human brain and body, and then could use it for its own sinister purposes. While the soul or consciousness, under its control (hypnotic) could be made to do whatever it wished up to a certain extent.
That is exactly what takes place when anyone hypnotizes another person—the soul or consciousness (which means the mind, its outer reflection, also) is under the control of the hypnotizer, and it will then believe whatever is told it and do whatever is commanded.
We are trying to show that one must never allow any outside force—no suggestion from another—to enter our mind’s consciousness and influence it against the inner conviction of the soul. Which means that one must learn always to turn within for the guidance of the Higher Self, and to strive to obey fearlessly Its leadings, as did our friend in the above experience.

FORGIVE AND FORGET
By N. S. E.
Forgive now, lest thou too late might be
To see the joy transporting him
Who—but for thy tranquility—
Might still be steeped in sin.
Forgiving lies in true forgetting,
And if we another’s error still do see,
We are then only letting
That sin live in eternity.
So brother—sister—one and all,
Mark not the error of condemning on thy brow;
But forgive—forget, that none may fall,
And all may be uplifted in forgiveness now.
