Connected with the sex nature are the great creative forces of the soul. But aside the forces of man are forces of the soul— they are the forces residing in and comprising man’s “separate” consciousness. The more “separate” one is, or the more material and selfish are one’s concepts and beliefs, the lower and more animalistic are the forces of one’s nature; and the more they are uncontrolled, the more inharmonious and destructive they become.

The great majority of men and women live principally to indulge their sensations; that is, to feed their desires for pleasure, whether of the body or the mind. With such their soul forces are uncontrolled and are allowed to run riot. This is permitted for them to learn the lessons from the inharmony, suffering, disease, and unhappiness that inevitably result.

This is of course all due to the activities of the sex nature—to the mind or outer man thinking that harmony and happiness can be gained that way—from the enjoyments of the flesh. Souls spend many lives on earth learning the fallacy of that idea. Not until true, unselfish love is born in the heart can man learn differently.

Why? Because up to that time he is of the earth, earthy; his consciousness is ruled by self, and self is concerned only with getting for self, with satisfying its selfish desires and imposing self’s forces upon the mind.

And what are its forces? All selfish thoughts, beliefs, desires, fears, concerns—all envy, jealousy, hatred that are a part of its “separate” consciousness. These forces are all born of sex, and sex is the sense of separation; and until separation is replaced by union—true union, which can be brought about only through true love, there will always be selfishness, and the downward pull of its destroying forces.

NOW LET us consider what is true union. We all know that being married by a minister or Justice of the Peace does not constitute true marriage. It far more often legalizes false union or adultery.

What then is true union? Only where there is pure unselfish love between a man and a woman is there a possibility of true union.
