are justified in so doing. But the lesson will only come back to them some day in a much harder form.

Of course this condition had its cause way back during the so-called “good times,” in the using of the good things of life permitted them solely for selfish purposes. Therefore their Higher Selves had to take them in hand and wake them up, so they could be made to learn the lessons for which they had been brought together.

No two people ever came into close intimacy with each other except to help round out and complete their characters. This applies the same to any two—two husband and wife, parent and child, brother and sister, business associates, office workers, friends and neighbors.

He or she who sees the other only through selfish eyes and seeks only to rule, dominate, and take advantage of the other whenever possible, will surely have to pay for so doing some day in someway or another, either in this life or another.

Selfish natures never realize this—they are too often always scheming to have their own way and to get from the other all they can, without giving anything in return they have to in return. But he or she who does this incurs a big debt to the other that eventually must be paid—the Great Law of life will compel its payment.

No one can run away from such obligations, no more than he can run away from his own self; for his failings and weaknesses will naturally accompany him wherever he goes, and will always confront him to bar his way to harmony, happiness and a successful life. Sooner or later he must face himself and see those negative, hindering qualities for just what they are and remove them from his path—which means from his nature, by replacing them with their opposites—those that will always work to help him attain his objectives.

Then how much wiser it is to meet one’s problems when they come, to listen carefully to what the Loving Voice within tells you when another speaks and accuses you of your faults and shortcomings, and not to retort, but to face yourself squarely and see if what was said is true. And if so, ask to be shown what to do to correct them.
