feed by continued acknowledgment and acceptance. This is the way sickness and all inharmonious conditions are brought into manifestation, and all you have to do, as a soul or a human being, is to refuse to see or acknowledge anything as real that is not all good and perfect.

“Thus, you observed how your hate for Bates became an all-consuming desire that so permeated and obsessed your whole being that it brought about the destruction of your mortal body, and even your soul, the real you, is controlled by its consuming hate.

“So you, the real John Fillmore, must learn the bitter fruits of knowledge and must carry out your soul-intent until your hate burns itself out and you realize that you can accomplish nothing. Suffering must be your portion until the lesson to be gained from hatred is fully learned. So Mote It Be.”

There was no doubt in John’s mind now that some voice was speaking within his consciousness, and he tried to neutralize the effect of that hate he had for his enemy by thinking good thoughts of Bates, instead of bad; but when he thought of him at all the old hatred welled up and would not be denied. Like a driving force which was beyond control he found himself automatically thinking of ways to complete his revenge regardless of these new surroundings, and thinking of him brought back that wonderment—he found himself in the presence of Bates.

He was realizing now that Time and Space meant nothing in this inner world and also, like some long-forgotten happening in the dim ages of the past, he knew not when nor where that he had gone through a similar experience in this inner world. Only he recognized this as a border-land of that world; that there was something yet to be gained so wonderful that it could not be described.

He saw no one—yet he knew he was surrounded by identities who were wholly a part of it. He sensed their presence and somehow heard their voices, and he realized that he was in some inexplicable way bound to the earth—was still of the earth, earthly, and that he had not completely severed his connection with the old life, yet was content to wait in patience for the unfoldment.

BATES’ previous thinking had not been of the calibre to help him analyze his predicament and realize what had happened.
