The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | DECEMBER 1936

sending my children to the Sunday School of the Center we attend, and with this exception the leaders are doing a wonderful work—but they should correct this false impression they are leaving with the people.

THE ABOVE letter presents a phase of the subject that all readers interested in our previous articles on Vegetarianism should likewise consider.

It is one of several letters we have received on both sides of the question, and in this article we wish to state our chief reason for giving out the facts in our previous articles.

It is solely because we have seen so many fine souls caught in the belief of Vegetarianism to such extent that they cannot see any good in meat or the eating of it. Their minds have become so wrapt up in their belief, fed by seemingly good reasons, that the subject has become a fetish with them and thereby a nuisance in their lives as well as in the lives of their families and friends—of course without their realizing it.

Please believe that we are not in any way opposed to Vegetarianism—for those who are led to it by their Higher Selves for the good it will bring them at that stage of their life and of their unfolding consciousness; and that we are not particularly in favor of meat-eating. But try also to believe that there must be good in meat also for those who need it, else why did God give it to them for food, as we showed in the August article, and why do the great majority of men eat it and is the main article of their food? Do you suppose this would be so, if God did not intend it, or at least permit it? Then surely there must be good in it.

Dear friends, the Middle Path is the only safe and the only sensible way, and is always the best way. But it is only the few who travel that way. They are the ones who, after many lives of traveling first on one extreme Path and then, through reaction, when learning of its error, jumping to the other extreme one side or the other alternately, always seeking the goal of Harmony and Perfection; until finally, they realize that the quickest way there is one on the Middle Path between the opposites, for they find that the only real and lasting good is found thereon, and that bad is found on every other Path.
