The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | DECEMBER 1933
faith, I said, “Father, You know my need, take care of it for me.” I left the boiler on the fire, and went about my work. In a very short time a knock came on the back door. Upon opening it, a small boy handed me a sample package of soap chips, sufficient to do my laundry.
I recognized in this the answer to my prayer, and immediately thanked the Father.
ABOUT two weeks ago I needed terribly a certain kind of shoes, which seem particularly adapted to my style of foot, having a certain arch support which makes them exceedingly comfortable. I did not have the money to purchase them, and I seemed to need them so much.
Going about my housework it occurred to me if my mortal father were here and I told him I needed the shoes, he would immediately supply me with the necessary money to purchase them. I at once said, “Father, I need shoes today. Will you see to it that I get them?”
About three hours later my landlord and his wife came. I gave them the money I had put aside for him for the rent and to my surprise he handed me back part of it, saying I had overpaid him last time.
I was too astonished for words, for I am a very careful person about money matters, and very exact, and said, “I simply could not have done that!” He smiled, and his wife laughed outright. “Well, you certainly did slip up that time, for I gave you a receipt for this much less than you gave me.”
Then I suddenly remembered, and gasped, “My shoes!” She wanted to know what I meant, and I told her. I think it impressed them almost as much as it did me.
