tithe. That portion of my reading stood out so prominently to me, I know it is meant to be so.

I see the workings of Spirit more plainly every day now.

I AM GOING to tell you of something you may not want to believe, but it really happened last week:

There was a young man at my home. He was reading. I was expecting a friend, and I said to him, “Is this room warm enough, or shall I light the grate fire? You know, Florence can stand lots of heat.”

In a rather abstracted way he replied, “It seems warm to me.”

Afterwards he told me that as he said this, he pictured the fire burning, in his mind, and I myself was thinking it would be more cheerful-looking to see the blaze. I had cleaned out the grate and had laid the paper, kindling and coal, ready to light when I wanted it, early in the morning, and this happened at two o’clock in the afternoon.

Anyway, we had hardly stopped speaking, when I heard a puff and the kindling crackling, and I turned and thought something was on fire. But a second look showed it was in the grate only—that the fire I had laid was blazing as if I had gone and lit it.

It is impossible to describe our feelings—the amazement and the queerness of it. In talking it over we both felt as being about half out of the body. At any rate, in some way we must have together formed a perfect thought picture of that burning grate fire, with our combined forces positive and negative—bringing it into manifestation.
