The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | DECEMBER 1933
feed these elementals and keep the thoughts alive. Being “elemental” forces, they are impersonal and semi-intelligent—that is, they take on the consciousness and purpose given the thought by its creator and immediately proceed to put the purpose into effect, regardless of consequence.
They are in fact the elemental life forces of man, which give him the power to be and do anything he wills, but which are inactive until man calls them into play by thinking thoughts filled with feeling. Whatever direction man gives these thoughts by his motives and feelings, these forces carry into effect, by entering and ensouling them, as shown above, and if the direction is strong and clear-cut, actually accomplishing the good or evil intended in the heart when sending them forth.
The daily exercises and study given in The Way Out Course, helps all who use it to free their minds from such parasites with ease—whenever the directions are fully applied. The principle of the exercise is to fill one’s mental atmosphere with the light of love, truth, wisdom, faith and power, whose pure light drives out all dark negative thoughts from the consciousness, as an arc light drives all darkness from a room.
Before a disciple can enter the Master’s service, it is necessary for him to learn how to keep his mind free from all negative, wasteful thoughts, that are inhabited by elementals like those described above. He who has developed the ability to free his mind at will of such thoughts, or rather, to prevent their entering the consciousness, has gone a long way on the road to Mastership.
