‘But surely you are; you have been sneezing so much, and anyone can see you are getting a cold.’ ‘But I am not getting a cold, and I’ll tell you why. You see those candles on the table? Well those candles wouldn’t be candles and they wouldn’t be on the table unless someone first thought of candles and put them there. So you see I am not going to get a cold, because I am not thinking of getting a cold.’ And he did not get a cold—all signs had disappeared in the morning.
When the writer was visiting with the family this Spring, he would talk with Tommy as he would with one of mature years and understanding. As a result he got quite close to him and was favored with many intimate reflections that he was trying to get through to his boyish mind, and consequently was able to help him make things much clearer to his mind’s understanding. Among our conversations was the following:
We had been talking about God. He had no difficulty in realizing that God is all that he is, and he feels, because of that, that nothing is impossible, if he can get his mind to accept and believe it. Then he remarked,
“You are a kind of teacher to father and mother, but tell me, how do you know these things? Who teaches you?”
Smilingly, I replied, “Who teaches you those things that you know, Tommy, but which you did not learn from books or teachers.”
“God.”
“Well, cannot he teach me the same as he teaches you?”
“Of course. I didn’t think of that.”
“But who is God, Tommy? Who-what is this God Who teaches us?”
“Why I am God in my real self.”
“Well, am I not God also, in my real self, and is not dad and mother also God? How can God be you, and me, and dad and mother, all at the same time?”
“That seemed to stump him. So I answered,
“Is it not God’s life, intelligence and power that is growing us and making us to be what He intends us to be? You know that
