The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | SEPTEMBER 1935

I then sent both out into the yard to play, blessing the yard and them, enveloping them with the Christ Light, and started on my house-work.

“Before long I heard sounds of wrath from next door—demands that I retrieve Sunny. He and a larger boy were filling the next-door boy with water—playing they were working in a garage, and they had to give him some gas.

“Harmony partly restored. Returned with Sunny to find that Elizabeth had been in refrigerator for a drink of milk and spilled remaining dishes I had planned for lunch. Cleaned her up and the mess also. Out in the yard again, surrounded by Christ Light. Returned to try and do some of the pile of house-work, sending Light to the little ones. Heard call for help. Sunny had climbed to the top of a cherry-tree and tied himself to a branch, ‘like the telephone men,’ and couldn’t get unfastened.

“Harmony again established. Playmate over playing. Then they return to her home. I fill street and house with blessing of Christ Light. Do a little more house-work when I discover Elizabeth has climbed fence and disappeared. Declare protecting Light around her and start hunting her. Find her two blocks away. Return home and start over again, only to find that Sunny has taken all the books from the bookcase to build a train for the playmate. Go to get the sweeper to sweep up the dirt he has made, and find it can’t be used because Sunny felt it needed to be regulated, and he was the ‘lectric man and fixed it for me.

“Look out window—Sunny again watering—flooding the basement. Lose my patience—scold him—feel ashamed—resolve to try harder—start again. And so it continues until bedtime, sometimes with a little longer periods of calm, and other times more hectic. I am not exaggerating—I just want you to know how it is, so you can put it up to me good and hard!

“This is the way it has been since Sunny started to crawl—only it seems to get worse. So I know I am not improving. That is why I have written several times for suggestions. I have glimpses all the time, however, of how wonderful they really are.”

THESE are but part of the difficulties met with in trying to handle these unusual little souls. Many are the problems that come up, and will come up all through their childhood years.
