SOCIAL HEALING

THE PRESENT social order is not the best possible order, and it is the duty of all good men to seek to fashion it according to the kingdom of God.

The first thing is to recognize that the supreme issues are moral. If material issues are placed first, then the stars in their courses will fight against them. The moral order of the universe must be reckoned with. The spiritual house must first be put in order. The one sure way to straighten the complex situation today is to get right with God. Then moral issues will be seen clearly.

People are not here to make a fortune, but to grow a soul. The issue between Christianity and materialism is clear cut—the one means that people shall enrich others; the other that they shall impoverish them.

It is a simple yet far-reaching truth that if men, especially the leaders, were to bow in reverence before the Eternal a few minutes each day, seeking purification, guidance and grace, the face of the earth would be changed from despair to hope, and from discord to love. That is the sure way to better days, and every man can begin at once. No life is insignificant if it is in communion with God.

—From a newspaper clipping sent from Australia, quoting Rev. H. M. Wheller, of the Albert Street Methodist Church.
