SPENDING MONEY FEARLESSLY
I WAS thinking much about the application of the truth that all supply comes from God, and that when one knows this and spends money fearlessly whenever urged from within and where there is a need, it but opens the door so that more can flow in. And I was trying to decide if in applying this truth I would be justified in buying a much needed hat, when there were bills that ought to be paid.
As I was pondering this, I happened to look down at my side and there I saw a basket filled with gold coins. In wonder, I reach down and picked up two of them, and as I did so I saw a little gnome, who seemed to be the custodian of the basket, take out of a bag hanging at his belt two gold coins like I had in my hand and place them in the basket.
This seemed odd, and out of curiosity to see what would happen, I spent the coins for the hat I needed. When I had done so I turned to learn if the basket was still beside me, and seeing it still there I remembered there were a number of other things I needed almost as much as I needed the hat; so to see what would happen, I reached down and this time took as many coins as I could hold in my two hands. Immediately the gnome dug into his bag and from it took just as many coins as I had taken and put them in the basket.
Then I sort of woke up and saw what it meant—I could now spend freely, for there would always be plenty; the gnome would replace all that I would spend and the money would never decrease, no matter how much I used.
But somehow I knew, that money was to be spent only for needed things or when urged from within to use it for helping and blessing others.
This little vision came in answer to my need, as similar ones often come, and convincingly showed me what God evidently wanted me to know—that my portion was plenty for every possible need, as was the portion of every one of His children who truly loved and trusted Him.
Maybe others will be as blessed by his striking illustration of a great truth as was I; for since then I have never hesitated
