At once she saw a tiny shoot coming up through the ground at her feet. It grew very rapidly, putting forth branches and leaves until it was a good-sized tree. Then came the blossoms, and their perfume filled the air all about her. As Dorothy watched, the petals fell one by one, and in their place appeared the tiny peaches that grew larger and larger, gradually changing from green to a lovely soft yellow, with touches of rose coloring on each side.
Dorothy had watched all this with wonder and delight, and now that the tree was right there before her eyes with ripe peaches filling all the branches, she wondered if she could eat one, they looked so delicious.
“Yes, you may really eat them,” the Brownies told her; and picking one off, they handed it to her. She tasted it and found that it was sweeter than any peach she had ever eaten before. The juice ran down through her fingers, and for the first time she noticed her dress. Oh, she thought, what a lovely dress I have on. I wonder if the juice will soil it.
“No,” said a Brownie, “you will notice that the juice has not even reached your dress. It has gone out into the air and you may only smell it.
Now that you have eaten the peach, look inside the seed and you will find something else delicious to eat.”
As Dorothy looked, the seed fell open in her hand, and she saw what looked like a little slip of paper within it. She read these words, “GOD IS LOVE.” Remembering that she had been told to eat what she found in the seed, she put it in her mouth and found it even sweeter than the peach had been. She then felt a great feeling of Love fill her heart. She thought, I will call this my tree of Love, and the Brownies said, “So be it.”
The Brownies now came close and one of them began to speak to her. “We have shown you how, by your thoughts and desires, you may create anything of which you are able to think. Now we will tell you a secret. Anytime you want to come here, you may do so by becoming very still and thinking only of this garden. You must not be afraid, nor must you doubt that you can come.
“You will now go back to the earth, and by remembering all you have learned here in this garden, you can, by thoughts of
