process of growth and unfoldment, through which an abundance of good, and ever more good, is being brought forth for the use of mankind.’
“Think that over carefully, until you see how true it is. I will repeat it,” which he did, and then waited a few minutes until the light of understanding appeared in the boy’s eyes. Then he said, slowly, “When you really know this, then you can comprehend the law—which is:
‘EVERY MAN AT ALL TIMES IS IN HIS PROPER PLACE, HAS PLENTY OF WORK BEFORE HIM, AND HAS AN ABUNDANCE OF ALL GOOD THINGS AWAITING HIS USE.’
Ned thought over this for a moment, and then asked with a puzzled look on his face:
“Do you mean that I am now in my proper place, have work I can do, and all of those good things; even though I am loafing around doing nothing and not knowing where to look for a job or how to get any one of a dozen things I need badly?”
“Yes, I mean just that; but I see you have not grasped the full meaning of the truth I stated, and which must be clearly perceived before you can understand the action of the law. Now listen carefully—
“If everything, including man—which of course means you, is in the process of growth and unfoldment, then the present depression and its world-wide unemployment must be a stage of universal growth, the result of past unfoldment of men’s consciousness. Can you see that?”
“Yes, that sounds logical; but of what good is that growth if one does not see the next step and how to benefit from this universal admission of defeat and inability to rise above it?”
