The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | FEBRUARY 1935

“For some time now, I have been able to get back into the consciousness of my dreams and realize their significance. It has helped me a great deal, and has spared your being burdened with my relating them.

“One of the things that comes to me time after time in my dreams and that I interpret as being perhaps my ‘forte’ or mission, is in these dreams my constantly ‘bringing order out of confusion.’ I feel that I am working, helping in the inner realms, in this way. Sometimes, it is a disorderly room where I am picking up newspapers, putting chairs to rights, adjusting shades and pictures. Again, it is in a big, bare hospital ward where I am plumping pillows, straightening coverlets, smoothing tousled hair; then, it is a desk littered with everything imaginable, and I am discarding the useless, and filing or sorting the worthwhile things; or a magnificent room is full of packing cases and rolled up rugs, and the people are running around aimlessly, accomplishing nothing. I always take charge and order begins to manifest itself. These are all symbolic, I know, of conditions I am helping to straighten out in people’s lives. If God grants me the privilege of doing that kind of work for Him, I shall certainly be happy.

“Recently I have found so many ways in which I can help, outwardly as well as inwardly, that while I have not written you until now of being a volunteer, yet I have been accepted as one. And another thing I have been doing recently, is following my first impulse. If the thought comes to me to do a certain thing, I do it even though later my ‘common sense’ tries to talk me out of it as being impracticable or unsuitable at this time, etc. I don’t know what the results have been, or may be, but I know my heart is lighter and joy fills my days more when I follow that impulse, than when I wanted to do something and then thought it best not to.

“May I prove to be worthy as a volunteer in the great Inner Work!”

A SPIRITUAL DIARY

MONDAY, August 14th, 1933. 3 A. M.

Attained realization of the power of Spirit. My body seemed to expand and expand, until every cell was filled to overflowing.
