The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JULY 1935

am—the good, beautiful and perfect Self of them and of every man?

Not until they can see only the perfect Me in themselves, and they know Me as their Self, can they ever find and know Me in their brother, or in My Messengers. For the real of them, which is My Christ Self, is purposely hidden within an imperfect personality, so that they can learn to look within, not without, for Me.

The time is not yet when I can come forth and show My True Self in any man. For were I to show even a little of My Perfection and Glory in a human personality, the world would quickly surround and worship that personality, acclaiming and deifying it; forgetting all about Me within themselves, Who alone they should reverence, worship and serve.

Because of this I must needs permit false Christs and false teachers to come and deceive the many whom I have taught of the Christ within, but who still turn to and worship personalities.

Many have wondered why such false teachers and impersonators of Me are allowed to mislead My people. How else can they learn to discriminate between the true and the false? When they will not heed My true teachings given through My Messengers, nor when I speak within their own hearts, I must permit them to believe what self wants to believe—until they learn what is not the truth through disappointment, disillusionment and suffering that results.

For those who can receive it, it is chiefly through his mistakes, failures, sickness, suffering, disillusionment and discouragement that man learns to hear, know and obey My Voice. But he chooses that to be so.

Never doubt, beloved, that this is not best. For only in this way can man grow, develop his will and understanding, and become strong and worthy to serve Me.

————o————

I TURNED me to the side
Whence came the voice,
And there appeared to be a light
That shone bright as a star:
My own soul it was.
