The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | APRIL 1933
But the last experience was quite different. In the dream I was in a lovely garden; before me, some distance away, was a large white building. It seemed as though I was waiting to enter it, to learn; but could not do so until I was called. I have been alone in this garden for months; that is, whenever I enter the Silence, this garden and myself waiting in it comes before me.
Now the unusual part is, that when it came to answering the questions in Lesson 45, I still, after many months, was waiting in the garden to be called, but instead of being called, one day during my Silence, I saw the figure of the Lord Jesus coming down the steps TO ME. He was robed in pure white, and was surrounded by a radiant light. He came straight to me, and stood before me, as though He were talking; and ever since, when entering the Silence, He is there talking to me. Sometimes we walk around the garden, He always doing the talking and I listening.
You will be glad to know that your dream, or rather soul experience, that came when answering the questions in the Papers, was a proof to you of where these teachings have brought you. You have come to that place in your Spiritual journey where your soul is being taught by the Comforter, the Christ within. The white temple, which you have been waiting in the garden for months to enter, is the Secret Place, the symbol of the Kingdom, and when the Lord has taught your soul a while longer and you have learned actually to hear His Voice and bring back the memory of it, He will lead you into the Temple. That means you will be able then to enter the Secret Place at will, and there you can consciously meet and talk with Him, your own Higher Self, Who is the Comforter, the Christ sent unto you.

This is a beautiful and true illustration of how after months and maybe years of studying, the soul is being prepared for the coming of the Christ. When the soul is ready, and the human mind has been brought to an understanding of the inner meaning of the outer teachings, then He comes, bringing the Light of His Presence, illumining the mind so that it becomes aware of His Presence, a Divine Love within the heart (the garden).
After a greater or less period of the awareness of that Presence and the allowing of Love to teach and influence the outer life,
