THE ALLUREMENTS ON THE PATH
I SAW myself walking up a rather steep, gray-white path; at the extreme top I sensed rather than saw a white wall that took in all that part of the region. I was saying to myself: “I think I am making progress Spiritually,” just then a small white dog sprang out from the wayside bushes and attacked me; a short struggle with dog when it suddenly sprang back into the bush. This would occur at intervals as I went up the path. Sometimes I could ward off the attacks but more often the dog was the victor.
The high, white wall grew more and more distinct as I approached it; when I reached it a door opened and I entered a place wherein I found peace, protection and security. A tall man of grace and kindness greeted me; he wore a robe of some sort of beautiful material, cream-white was the color, a three-ply cord about his waist.
How long I remained in the haven of peace I do not know, but there came a time when the entire north side of the wall became transparent like glass, through it I could see a range of mountains, wooded with fir and evergreen trees; then these shot up from below, just beyond the mountains, a light that illumined the deep, indigo-blue sky, this was followed by a still greater light, of dazzling white and spread silently, pale blue and covered the entire horizon.
I no sooner saw this when a desire to find this Light possessed me, and I found myself outside of that glass wall walking down a wide, pale gray path. Guided by the Light I walked on downwards, and reaching the level I stepped from the path onto the green grass. The lovely scenery, beautiful homes and other things attracted me so I wandered for a time; then, I was reminded of the Light, my reason for leaving the enclosed place I had left to search for it. I looked up towards that part of the heavens where the Light had been, but it was no longer there; the entrancing deep, indigo-blue of the heavens lit my attention and chilled me with a sense of calm assurance as I stepped onto the gray-white path and resumed my journey onward and upward. Though the Light had disappeared I felt within me that I should find it eventually.
The path you were walking upon and which led to the top of a high hill is of course symbolic of your present Spiritual activities. The high wall bars from the hill those who are not able to know the truth that nothing can keep them from entering the consciousness in this high realm except their own fears and wrong beliefs.
