THE INTERPRETER’S HOUSE

IN THIS Department will be given interpretations of dreams and visions of those needing to know their inner meaning. We reserve for it only those of special interest and helpfulness.

THE PRAYER FOR LIGHT

IN A DREAM I started with some friends in a car upon a dark road. I never knew such blackness—it was as if a velvet curtain was about us and my friend said, “Lucius we must turn back.” I said, “Oh no, we must go on.” So they let me out of the car and I went on alone. They then turned about and left me. I went on the most terrible blackness and unspeakable horror; it was like Dante’s Inferno, only worse, because I felt it was happening to me. In the blackness I heard moans of agony, shrieks of pain, cries of terror, pleadings for help—horror indescribable; a terrible stench came about me, hands seemed to clutch at me, great wings of loathsome birds came about my head and all in this terrible blackness. I prayed, “O God, give me Light—only a little light—light—light! I cannot endure this. Oh God.”

And there came a wee tiny light in my heart, and then it grew and my soul plexus grew transparent with light; and it grew and grew until it shone about me as a halo. All the horrible sounds and stench shrank away and I was free and stood in a glow of golden light. I seemed to be transparent.

Then—I saw the figure of Christ coming toward me! But the Light was so bright about His figure that I could not bear it.—And the dream ended.

* * * * *

This dream was an illustration of how, through intense prayer, the Light within you begins to shine and draws forth the Christ of you; for He is the Light which lighteth you, although He may seem to be without you.

The blackness and horrors you contacted were but the out-picturing of soul-conditions you meet when you allow self-pity, discouragement, and despair to engulf you. Your only salvation then is to call upon God for Light. If your call comes from the Soul, it as it were opens the heart and lets the Light of God’s Love to shine forth, and it seems as if Christ has come to save you—which He has, and He does save you.

And what is the Christ? He is this great Love of God that you must invite into your heart, allowing it to abide there and to rule every thought, word and act.
