THIS incident took place when I had a tooth pulled. The memory of it has remained with me ever since.

I took gas. There were two dentists there, and as they adjusted the mask they began telling a story. I knew what it was for—to direct my thoughts to what they were saying, rather than to the pain in the tooth. But I had thoughts of my own that I wanted to think. And I clung to one statement, “God is Love.”

Then came a time when all was void, and there was I—just a point of consciousness, the words, “God is Love,” and the pain. Then fear came, and I was afraid that the pain would remain, and helplessly I would be conscious of it when they pulled the tooth. But in a flash I countered it by the realization that God would take care of that and all things.

The next thing I knew, I was in the company of a group of people before the Christ. There was something that had to be done, something that might be loss of everything—friends, money, position, all—to the one that did it. And I was elected to do it. I didn’t want to do it unless I was sure that it was of God. Then somehow everything seemed to depend (I don’t know how) on what I had been asked to do. I saw that it was I and for God, and said I would do it. A blinding light then shone on me, and a voice said, “YOU!”

Then I awoke. And as I awoke, most of the details of the dream or experience slid out of my consciousness. I don’t remember what I agreed to do, and have often wondered about it. What do you make of it?

Because of your training to prove God in handling the pain of your tooth through using the words “God is Love,” you found your soul facing the Christ, your own Divine Self. It was shown what it meant to serve Him, and that He had called you to His service. The blinding light was the full realization that came that you must serve Him—that nothing else was of any moment but your faithful service.

Therefore when your mind has been trained to become an open selfless channel, surrendered wholly to God or your Christ Self, it will be shown and enabled to do the work for which you have been training it all your past life. At present what you are passing through is but the refining process, in which you are gradually disciplining and perfecting all your mental faculties, until the mind becomes a perfect servant.
