over him an hypnotic spell which prevented his trained mind from functioning normally.

I naturally had an intense desire built up largely out of curiosity, to meet this unusual man, confident that I would be able to penetrate his mask of deception and to prove to my friend that he was the sincere but deluded victim of a clever hypnotist. I had no reason, however, to expect that such would be my good fortune; hence you can readily understand my surprise and delight when I received the following telegram:

I well knew that the cryptic words, “He will be there,” referred to the Mystery Man, and it was with difficulty that I waited the few intervening days, so great was my eagerness to see this reputed Master. It never occurred to me to question who Mr. Gleason Godfrey might be; I was thinking only of the Master. In fact, nothing was as I had anticipated, and the events that followed so far exceeded my expectations that I was not only thoroughly convinced of the genuineness of the character and works of this Master Man, but my very concept of life itself and my outlook upon the world were completely metamorphosed by what transpired.

Much that I saw and heard will not be here revealed as it still remains a profound mystery to me. I am endeavoring to make a truthful report of such portions as I am permitted at this time, to tell, leaving the reader to form his own conclusions.

(As will be seen by a Newspaper clipping, reproduced at the close of this narrative, the great Oom-Sur-Ri-Ming has completed his labors on this plane of life, for the time being at least. Hence I am at liberty to tell my story.)

FIFTEEN minutes before the appointed hour I presented my card at the offices of the Heinz-Clear Manufacturing Co., and was immediately conducted to the office of the president.
