The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MARCH 1935

required, and not letting up on a single one until what was promised was fully proved.

Yes, we know that many who read have not done that; for we know how lazy is the human mind, and how prone it is to put off to some future time the doing of things, even the necessary ones—not to speak of those things of an abstract nature that requires hard and persistent mental effort. But we tell you plainly that the time is growing very short and the opportunity to do what has been suggested will not remain long to accomplish all that is necessary to free your mind from the forces that hold it down to earth; when the greatest longing of your soul will be to lift all of its outer consciousness above the conditions that will soon exist on earth to the heavenly realm where your soul comrades dwell and where you can work as they work.

Therefore, further to help you develop the qualities of mind and will necessary to make them do just what your soul wants to do, but as yet has not the power to do, we give you the following suggestions:

LET US take some pet physical trouble that has been bothering you for some time, causing you considerable disturbance of mind, perhaps much fear and worry. We will remind you of the law, that “whatever is now manifesting in your body or affairs is the result of what you are holding in your consciousness AS BEING so.”

Now let us study your mind’s part in this trouble—just what picture it is holding in consciousness, and its reactions thereto.

First, study carefully that picture and note how very clearly it stands out in your mind, so much so that it is probably the most prominent thing there. Now note how, whenever your mind is free of other interests, it is drawn unwittingly to that picture of your trouble, and how you then begin immediately to feed it with more fear and worry, thus pumping more life into its thought-form and giving it more power to claim and hold your mind’s attention. In time, if you permit this to continue, you will find that trouble will develop into something virulent and will lay you low; when you will be compelled to take it in hand, or to give in to it completely.
