The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | NOVEMBER 1934

We tell you this so plainly, despite the harm that may be caused by evil-minded persons attempting to use this knowledge for selfish purposes. But we know the law, and that it works inexorably with such—they will have to pay for any misuse of a divine law as surely as you are now paying for such misuse in the unhappy, inharmonious and unwanted conditions manifesting in your life. They are but the result of your ignorant and unconscious use in the past of your power of thinking.

Which means, with this knowledge now given to you, you will be held responsible by the law for what you think and thereby create, consciously or unconsciously. You will have to pay for any selfish use of this power—doubly so, now that you know the law.

So we earnestly urge that from now on you watch carefully your every thought and feeling, especially those given expression by speech, for they are sure to come back to you, their creator, and bring you good or ill, according to what motivated them when you sent them forth.

NOW WE will talk a little on “clear thinking,” as related to our illustration of the mind being a hole in humanity’s consciousness through which the pure light of Truth is ever seeking to shine.

Try to realize what is humanity’s consciousness. Are you in your physical body anything more than a rock, a tree or a horse? Are not their bodies formed of the one universal substance, and is not the same life and consciousness animating each and holding together the atoms comprising their bodies? Is not the only difference in them the degree of unfoldment of—and the use made of their forms—by the consciousness animating them?

Man is said to be made “in the image and likeness of God,” which can mean only that the center of consciousness in the real or awakened man, like God, can see and think or create pure and perfect thoughts—or the Light of the One Consciousness shines so clearly into and through his mind, that it enables his consciousness to become aware of the pure and perfect ideas in the One Mind and of his Oneness with that Mind. And does this not prove that then his mind again becomes or is the One Mind—for then there is no more sense of separation.
