The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MARCH 1935
The first place where man must look for this monster is within the secret places of his own heart. Man must recognize this thing and tear out the monster and bring him forth into the light and view him in all his ugliness and kill him, and destroy the remains, that no part of him can rise to bring forth fruits of evil.
After a man has destroyed this monster within himself, it is his duty to go forth and show others the monster they are harbouring within their breasts. When Greed has died man will have the time to turn and look about him to find the need of his brother. He will help his brother increase his goods, instead of envying what he has and trying to devise some way by which he can transfer the goods to himself.
Ah yes, it is the annihilation of Greed that will bring forth the Brotherhood of Man, when all shall live in plenty, and none shall envy his brother. —Through Mary and Marta.

IF YOU have not discovered that the deepest and most enduring pleasures of life are the pleasures of the mind, then you have missed the most important chapter in your book of life. “Empty thy purse into thy head,” admonished the wise Shakespeare.

SURELY before this descent into physical life we existed in the spiritual world, being otherwise than now we are, and some of us gods; clear souls, with minds unmixed with all existence; parts of the spirit, nor severed thence. Nor are we completely severed even now. —Plotinus.
