THE SOUL LIFE
MY BELOVED Brothers:
The time that has elapsed since I last wrote you has been filled with the strangest experience of my memory. The beginning was in this wise:
At six o’clock each morning, at noon each day, and at 10:30 each night, a friend and I sat apart for our Silent Hour. Gradually people had begun to come to me or to both of us for help, and at these hours we took them with us into the Silence and directed the Light to their souls in blessing and in love, in the sure knowledge that “Love never faileth.”
Finally about a month before Easter, a woman phoned me, asking prayers for her sister who was to leave that day for Atlanta—for special treatment for Cancer, our local physician saying her condition was hopeless and she was inoperable.
We prayed for her that night. I did not know her—nor do I now; but all night I seemed beside her on the train, focusing the Light upon her soul. Now comes the unusual part.
When morning came I went as usual to the furnace room, and while waiting for a good blaze before adding the fuel I entered a higher consciousness, for I remember being aware that I was surrounded by an atmosphere that seemed like a vast ocean of deepest blue.
I said to myself, this must be Universal Substance and filled with power, love, healing—all things needed to satisfy our longing to serve. I then bathed the one for whom I had been praying in this ocean; I filled her so full of the Love and Mercy of God that I knew that her being was cleansed of all the mistakes, false beliefs and selfishness of the past, and she was made perfect and pure in body as in God’s idea of her—for her soul was now free from the trammelings of the flesh and could be seen, and she was beautiful.
Then I seemed “caught up” still farther, as it were, and was in my “Garden of the Soul.” The lilies were so white, the lake
