The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1934
so blue, the birds were singing gloriously, and the fragrance of the flowers and the joy of angels were everywhere.
For awhile I sat there in peace. Then I entered my home that adjoined the Garden, to a room I had not entered before, very large, well-proportioned, hung with pictures, beautiful beyond description. Everything was white except gorgeous roses, tinted with most delicate pink.
As I stood in the center of this room alone, I realized for the first time that my garments too were white, and that a light, soft, clear and most beautiful filled the room. People began to gather, but their garments were removed before entering and they were given robes of sheerest, purest white.
In a very short time we left the house, a number greater than I could count. We walked quietly in the Garden, some to the edge of the lake, others standing under the trees, my friend, her sister and I quite apart, but very near the lake.
A hush fell over us. Then appeared the Saviour, just over the lake, and the heavens were filled with glorious Beings, their white robes glistening in the light. It seemed that They in the air, and we so close, held tall white lilies in our hands, and all joined in singing “Hosannas.” Never have I heard such music nor seen such beauty, never have I experienced such joy.
I turned to see if my friend’s sister was still beside me—and in her place I beheld the most sinister figure! I cannot describe it, nor the menace of its approach, the blackness of its robe. It spoke no word—but it struck me down. I fell prone on the floor.
I could see myself—in the dress I had put on when I dressed for the morning—lying on the floor. (I was actually standing before the furnace, but saw myself on the floor, like one dead.) Then I also saw my house, my Garden, my lake, the glorious throng—all of them, recede from my sight.
I cannot explain, but at first I was fully aware of the Garden and its host of worshipers, the sinister figure trying to blot it all out, my body lying on the floor, that part of me seeing it all, then the furnace-room and the everyday me.
But I am very happy to report that the healing of the one for whom I prayed was complete.
