THE SOUL’S HOME
THE FRIEND who wrote us of the following experience in a previous letter had told that during meditation and complete relaxation he had the unusual faculty of finding himself in the soul “realm seemingly living in an ideal condition that can best be described as a communal hotel, one very large where many individuals lived in supreme comfort and even luxury, each separate apartment being a complete home furnished to suit the taste of its owner; there being a great library, dining-room, lounge, swimming-pools, billiard rooms, gardens, tennis courts—every possible convenience and necessity, which any resident could enjoy at will.
In this apartment hotel everyone seemed to be of a fine type, intelligent, cultured, entertaining and most friendly, just such a lot of social acquaintances one would wish to have if one could choose in such a community home. One thing peculiar about it he noticed and that was the subject of money was never mentioned, although there was evidence everywhere as if plenty of it was used; but he could not recall his ever thinking of it while there, or of ever seeing any. Everyone took their being there and enjoying this happy, free, care-less life as a matter of course.
To him it seemed that this was the place or state of consciousness where his soul retired when his mind was freed from its strenuous concentration upon the desperate conditions he was then facing in the outer world. He wrote us describing this place of relaxation, and wondering if it in a way was the “Garden of the Soul” which his soul had earned or created, as compared with the “Garden” described in some of the earlier soul experiences related herein. In questioning him further about it all, he replied as follows:
YOUR letter seems to analyze the situation very well, but there are still certain gaps probably due to lack of understanding on my part.
In the first place I ought to explain that the inhabitants which I have met in that “garden consciousness,” while they seem to
