The Inner Life 1933

the deeply in earnest ones may receive the instruction and guidance that will enable them to find Him Who is the True Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world; He Who will teach them all things and lead them to all truth.

From these words it may be seen that guidance is evidently needed by most students to find and follow the Christ within and that although in Jesus’ teaching the way is clearly shown, yet few are able unaided to find Him and to understand His deeper meaning. The few who do find Him unaided are those who had found and had been taught by Him in past lives, or who in this life have actually made the finding of Him first in their minds and hearts. When He is found and the disciple waits upon and is consciously caught by Him, then He becomes the one and only Teacher needed.

The Impersonal Teachings have been issued and are devoted to that sole purpose—to helping the student find the Christ, the Divine Self within, Who as the Comforter or Holy Spirit will then lead him in all things and finally bring him into the Kingdom.

And what is the Kingdom? It is that consciousness where the mind is enabled to look right through the outer appearances of every thing, condition and person—even of his own self—and to see the goodness and perfection of God therein—the real of them; where Love rules continually; and where the mind knows its Oneness with the One Mind, and that all Its Wisdom and Power is ever available for its use.

THE THREE VOWS

WHEN one enterest the Path, thou possessest nothing but the Will to Serve. Thy time, thy body, thy goods—all are surrendered.—This is the Vow of Poverty.

Abstain from bodily pleasures—but please others. Abstain from intercourse with men—but help and serve them. Abstain from worldly affairs—but do the Master’s work.—This is the Vow of Chastity.

Listen ever to thy Master’s Voice; still the mind that thou mayest hear its faintest tones. Then, when thou hearest, thou art ready to obey.—This is the Vow of Obedience.
