The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | APRIL 1933

IN THE above is shown clearly how to distinguish between the voice of self and that of the Divine or Christ Self, whose Voice is perhaps the most important thing man must learn to know and obey at the present time.

It is true that many—the vast majority of mankind—are still in the stage where they turn to other teachers and teachings, thinking they cannot learn truth otherwise. But we say that every man has within him Something—we call it such, until each learns to know It for what It really is—that at times points out what It wants him to accept and what to reject; that leads him in certain directions in preference to others; that actually puts him through every experience in life, all the time trying to show him Its will and purpose for him; to teach him the reason for his failures, to encourage him to greater efforts, to chide or caution or warn him, when self would have its way.

Everyone who does any thinking and has studied his self, more or less clearly senses this, and must have come to the realization that until he learns to know unfailingly this Something within so he can always obey Its will, usually mistakes, trouble, suffering, hardship or failure result; but when he truly listens and follows Its guidance, success, harmony, happiness and peace are sure to manifest.

It is our chief desire that all students of the Inner Life learn to know and obey that Something, that Voice of their Divine Self, as quickly as possible; and it is our purpose to give definite helps to that end in future articles from time to time.

One of the most helpful practices which can be followed all through the day, is to train yourself to listen to that silent inner Voice when anyone speaks to you about some subject of interest, or when you are reading some
