WIGSIE, or Royal, as we think of him now, felt that his work was done there, so he decided to leave. Now that Jano was happy and knew how to keep that way, he knew that she would not miss him so much. He waited for the good thought to come to him to tell him which way he should go, for that is what all fairies do.

When he was browsing in the meadow one day he saw a family, a father, mother and son walking down the highway. They were hampered by their many belongings, and by the little boy who limped. Wigsie watched them until they were almost out of sight; then he must have gotten the good thought, for he suddenly seemed to make up his mind, as he started after them, following them closely. He discovered that they were called Father and Mother Dante by the little boy, and their only sorrow in life was because Sonny Benny could not walk straight like other children. He was a beautiful lad with long silken golden curls, and blue eyes.

A couple of hours later the little family noticed this strange white horse who appeared to be traveling with them. He was without an owner as far as they could see, so Mother Dante pointed out, why should they not allow him to carry some of their load; for in truth, he kept close to them and seemed to want to be with them. So Wigsie became the property of the Dantes, and instead of Royal they called him King for he could not hide his noble blood. Mother Dante also wanted to ride King, but Father Dante objected. He said that the horse was doing his share in carrying the household goods.

Day by day Wigsie learned more of this little family. He discovered the father was going to sell him to a rich man so they could have money enough to take Sonny to wise men who professed to know how to cure him. He also learned that the Dante family had at one time been very rich, but they had spent all they had trying to make the little lad well.
