IN THE preceding article on the Mind, there was pictured to you as clearly as may be just what is the mind; and herein we will consider what is thinking—what a man does when he thinks.

We will remind you what is man. We know that man is not his body, nor is he his mind, but that he is a center of awareness of the One Consciousness, called a soul. And a soul, as you know is the sum total of all things—all knowledge, of which it is aware.

We have shown that the mind is the outer extension of the soul’s Consciousness; even as the soul is the outer extension of the Consciousness of the Holy Spirit within the soul, and as the Holy Spirit is a ray or outer extension of God’s Consciousness.

The soul then is the real man or the real expression of humanity, even as the Holy Spirit is the Divine Man or the real expression of Divinity; the mind being but the outer-extension of both, created for the sole purpose of expressing on earth what exists in Heaven or in God’s—the One—Consciousness.

And the only way this can be done is by thinking—by the mind’s thinking God’s thoughts. How is this done, and just what does man do when he thinks?

To answer this, you must first see clearly that man—the real man—is a soul, is that inner self that is aware of all it has ever learned in its many past lives, and is not what most men believe—that their minds that do their thinking, worrying and fearing, are they. The real man—the soul—then KNOWS and does not think; when it wishes to express its knowledge or will, it must convey its meaning and purpose to its outer self, the mind, by impression; which causes the mind to think and thereby to bring forth what the soul within intends—in accordance with how clearly the mind “sees” and interprets the soul’s meaning.

In other words, you as a soul are ever trying to express your true self and nature by impressing your mind with what you wish your human self to do and to be; but your mind is usually concerned with outer things, with its beliefs about its body, the conditions surrounding it, and the world and people in it, that
