The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | DECEMBER 1934
and know Him in every thing and in every body, you are but seeing and knowing lies; and it therefore behooves you to start at the beginning, in an endeavor to correct your vision, to cleanse your mind of all lies, and to perfect its understanding.
We will begin with your body. If God is All in all, then He must be living in your body. You know intellectually that it is His life and His consciousness that animate your body and cause it to perform all its functions so perfectly; but your mind just automatically accepts it as a fact without really knowing how or why they thus function. But now let us try to get it to know it as a reality, as it truly knows any other truth.
We must remind you that all is Consciousness, that what you call God is the all consciousness, and that all things exist in consciousness only as thoughts in the consciousness of man’s mind. Then it must follow that your body is just a thought that exists only in the consciousness of your mind; and that your body therefore is only what your mind thinks it is. Being only a thought or a mental picture that your mind created in its consciousness by thinking and now believes is so, it stands to reason that if it wishes to change the body, which now exists in the consciousness of your mind exactly as it is pictured there, all that is necessary is to think it different and hold it in consciousness as being so, and when the mind believes it is so, it and other minds it will so appear outwardly (so-called).
But in your mind’s desire to change your body and make it perfect outwardly—which only means perfect in its consciousness, we will show you the best, the true and only sure way to attain perfection. That way is by knowing the truth about your body.
And what is that truth? That it is God’s body. That this body your physical eyes see is not your body—it is only what your mind thinks is your body. That God is indeed living within your body, but not in the one your mind has created—no more than you are living in the reflection of a body your eyes see in a mirror. For what your mind sees and believes is so is but the sadly distorted reflection that is now mirrored in your mind’s consciousness, and is no more your real body than the image seen in the glass is your body.
But you do have a real body, and it is a perfect body. It must be perfect, if it is God’s body in which He dwells. But remember
