When one thus sees Reality all the illusions of separation disappear, even as when looking at the sun there are no shadows—all is light.

WHEN THY GODS DESERT THEE

By S. B.

WHEN thy gods desert thee, it will seem That life is o’er, And death, the last great enemy Crowds the door . . . Fear not! It is the death of mortal seeming. Fear Not! It is thy gods dethroned screaming “Never more!”

Nevermore the Tree of Knowledge With its fruit Of good and evil, pain and pleasure, Winds its root Around thee, till the serpent bids thee eat And die—renounce Love’s Holy Paraclete, Its Life refute.

No longer shall thy gods prevail, Nor “coat of skin” Imprison thee. — Perfection is! And all thy sin, The dissipations of the flesh, “the fall,” “Forbidden fruit,” are powerless—if thou call On the One within.

“No other gods but Me alone” Is Paradise, ’Tis Eden’s Garden, and the Tree Of Life supplies All Light and Love—Truth’s River flowing through thee With Creation’s secrets shall endue thee— Immortalize.
