The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1934

evening he was completely himself again, without having to endure the ordeal of one of his attacks. Now, I would like to ask two questions concerning this experience:

  1. Do you think the boy I aided could have been my brother?
  2. Under what circumstances should we consciously consent to leave our bodies?

OUR ANSWER was as follows:

When you left your body in the group meeting and saw the boy in the throes of a convulsion, and you found that by simply touching him he became still, we have reason to believe that you actually visited your brother, whose soul seemed to you as a little boy. This is proved by his voluntarily visiting the doctor the next day. Everything always happens first in the soul realm and to the soul, before it manifests in the outer, and your going to his soul, and doing what you did so influenced him that he was led to go to the doctor, as was shown.

Hereafter, when impressed to do so, if you will go in consciousness to your brother’s soul, just as you did at that time, and will place your hand upon him, you will accomplish the same thing that you did then. Try to realize this and to prove it, believing the same results will follow—and they surely will follow.

Answering your second question, it would seem that under such circumstances you would be warranted in leaving your body, but you would have to follow the same procedure of reasoning it out to yourself that an Elder Brother, even Christ, would be there to protect you. In fact, you should ask such to accompany you, and you will then receive just the help and protection needed. The chief point is to go only to help another when impressed to do so, and never out of curiosity; and you should be absolutely sure of yourself and do it to accomplish some needed good.

WE NOW ask you to study with us this experience, in order that we may get out of it all the good that it contains; for it holds much that helps us to know how to aid one in trouble, especially if that trouble is of a psychic nature.
