The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MARCH 1933

their influence at will, such may become the victim of unprincipled scoundrels, just as do those in the flesh who trust the promises of smooth speaking blackguards.

On the other hand, those in the inner world who are truly striving to help their earthly co-experimenters or pupils, can and do acquaint them with information about the laws and conditions in the inner world, as well as tell them how to protect themselves from harmful influences, all of which has been of untold value to students who have open minds. Oftentimes real spiritual instruction and knowledge is received, as witnessed by the many fine books given to men through such sources.

WHAT we want you particularly to realize is that there are good and bad men, wise, mischievous and ignorant ones, in the invisible world, the same as there are here, and that there is no real difference, insofar as man’s intelligence and nature is concerned. Because you cannot see them you have to depend chiefly upon what they say through their written words, but that, of course, is not good evidence, especially if they should try to deceive you as to their real nature or motives.

We wish here to state that the wisest course is always to be on the alert, even as you would be when talking to a stranger in this life wishing to make your acquaintance and to gain your confidence. Never be off guard and never allow yourself to get in that attitude of mind where you accept unreservedly what is told; where you fear to doubt and question the identity claimed, or any statement made; or where you fear the displeasure of the communicator, should you ask for needed information. It is such fear that always opens the door to and makes deception possible. Likewise the only attitude of mind to hold is to treat such communication exactly as you would a stranger
