The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1935
giving us bread; the poison from his cup tastes like an elixir of life; we think that, the Prince of Darkness, is a son both of heaven and of earth.” This is how he speaks: “You were promised heaven, but I give you the earth. You were to believe in an unfathomable God, but I make yourselves gods. You think heaven is more than earth, but earth itself a heaven.” *
How long will men choose to listen to his sophistries, his lies spoken in honied tones and mysterious meanings, and shut their minds to the still small voice within ever trying to warn them against his words and to show them the true way? It is because he always speaks through the voice of self, that voice men have listened to from the beginning, and have not yet learned that it never fails to lead to trouble, wrong-doing, failure, sickness, sorrow, suffering, or inharmony of some kind.

Can we face that fact, and realize that it must be so? Then man back through the ages has been serving Anti-christ, and did not know it! If so, and we do not see how we can deny it, it accounts for the natural sin, sickness and suffering to which man has been heir from the beginning.
Of course, we are told that when Adam, the first man, was deceived by the Serpent (the guise in which Anti-christ appeared to him), Jehovah God as a punishment drove Adam from the Garden of Eden—which sounds to us very much like Heaven—and condemned all his progeny to toil and suffer until God relented,
