ON JUNE 23rd I addressed to you a short plea, asking for help in creating a synthesis of Love and Power in order to aid me in bringing to earth an understanding and obedience to the Law, and while the message came to you direct, it was at the same time broadcast to the ends of the earth.

The response was startling, though in many ways contrary to my intention and purpose. However when the fermentation is over and the mistaken beliefs aroused have revealed their fallacies, the result may approximate the idea intended. One discouraging effect has been the universal tendency to substitute force, in place of the Spiritual Power I was asking men to invoke. There has been an unprecedented flood of law making and the urging and executing of dictatorial methods to bring about Utopias which only a few months ago the most radical visionary would not have dared to mention. Never in history has there been such an endeavor to back real ideas and visions with force. If men had been ready for the message they would have seen that what I was asking for was a synthesis of Love and Power, and that any attempt to reach a goal with force as a substitute, was doomed to failure.

You will perhaps understand me better if I repeat what my trial objective has been, and make plain to you the difficulties I am facing, not merely with earth dwellers, but also with both transient and permanent Plateau residents. If this statement seems startling, let me tell you something. It is easier to educate an earth dweller to contact and dwell on the Plateau than to educate a Plateau Dweller to volunteer for an efficient service on earth. I know what I am talking about for I have been suspended in intermediate realms and had tasks to perform in both. In fact my sympathies go out to the Plateau Dweller, who volunteers to incarnate for service on earth, and is not properly prepared for the task. Instead of finding himself working in loving cooperation with the earth dwellers, he finds himself in conflict and eventually torn to pieces by the different personalities whom he would help, and his earth-life is usually one long martyrdom.
