Army as having existed and as operating from the very beginning, and that during the course of countless ages hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of souls on earth have enlisted in that Army.”

You will note we speak of “souls,” not men who have “died.” If you will think carefully of this and of what both preceded and followed it, you will find that what was meant was that the souls of the men of earth must have first evolved spiritually before they could enlist in that Army, and that after enlisting many of them continued to evolve, so that they rose from the ranks to become officers in the Army.

This could only have resulted from their having proven themselves highly efficient soldiers of Christ, loving service having first fitted and prepared them to become warriors in His Army.

We are still speaking of “souls,” and of their having through countless ages attained to enlistment in the Army, first as disciples, and then to the higher offices. Of course that means these souls must have lived many times on earth in human bodies, where alone life’s experiences could teach them the true meaning of love and service to others.

If you doubt this, look around among your fellows and see how few as yet have learned that meaning. Then look and see if you cannot find some whom life is teaching it—especially at the present time, when men are turning to and are seeking God as they have never sought Him before. Why? Because everything they had acquired and built up for the use of self has been torn down or been taken away from them, and they have futilely sought everywhere else for help; finally, when at the end of their
