The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1934

who have seen life on the so-called spiritual plane, am the same as one who desired and “created” on the physical plane. The spiritual and the material man are identical. One must rise into Spirit.

The nothingness of L. . . . . (her self) and the allness of Truth was shown me Friday evening when I attended the Unity class. This teacher can teach Truth, but she swings one from one extreme to another in her explanations—telling all about the Truth, but not living and proving she herself has it. As I sat there it gave me great distress of mind, for I was taught that same way and have reaped bitterly, as you know.

What I have not been able to fathom is how anyone can go on teaching that way. Now, all these seemingly condemning, criticizing thoughts were passing through me, but at the same time I said, “Oh why does she not teach them self-control?”

After the meeting, she told the class, “Mrs. . . . . . is the healer of this class. I have never felt such healing vibrations as I have had from her all evening.”

“Well, it stunned me for a moment, and I couldn’t say a word. You see, God wanted to teach L. . . . . her unimportance, so He chose a time like that. If He had chosen a time when L. . . . . was speaking Truth, she would have felt, “I did it because I was holding good thoughts for her.” No, He chose a time when He knew L. . . . . knew she was not doing that. It taught me “The Truth is all there is.” That is what the teacher received. That closed all doubts from my mind. It now sees that is what takes place all the time. It does nothing but what I give it to do to fulfill God’s work here.

It seems now too that when I said “self-control,” I meant “As the Christ taught.” It didn’t give me any elation whatever to be called a healer, such as it would have given me a few years ago. But it gives me much joy that “the Truth flows through me and it is felt and frees.”

I feel that the Divine Wedding you mentioned has been consummated. One morning I arose with this vision: I seemed to be standing behind an altar. Before me were my two selves—the spiritual and the human, hands joined. As I saw them I saw the whole struggle had been between these two for supremacy.
