The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1934

knew—in some way I cannot describe—that “The feet must be washed in the blood of the heart before they could make the Path that leads to the Light.”

Again, I was standing alone upon a high mountain above all places I had known. I looked out over vast distances and saw below what looked like millions of lighted candles, some as tiny as birthday candles, others larger, and one large like a Cathedral candle. Sometimes they glowed softly, sometimes they were almost, but never quite, blown out. I stood before them in reverence, for again that unseen, but strongly felt Presence made known to me that I was seeing the Light of God’s Love in the hearts of men.

And even as I knew this a great and glorious Light enveloped the lesser lights, and one by one they merged into this great Light. The glory that shone upon the world was beyond description. I was made to realize how earnestly we must work and how beautiful is the Spirit which surrounds us, and how truly, “Love never faileth.” I have no words to tell you how humble this made me feel, nor the depths of gratitude I offer for what you are opening for me. I pray His blessing upon you all.

Regarding your dream, the large building with its many rooms symbolizes your consciousness, which you are now renovating and having thoroughly cleaned preparatory for the new furniture you intend to place in it, through these new truths you are learning. You were shown that there are many things in this house that it was still necessary to do in order to get it fit and ready for such truths. All of those coffins holding the large dead bodies found in several of the rooms showed indeed long ago have been buried. They symbolize a lot of old beliefs you have been carrying around in your consciousness that have no place there, in the light of the new understanding you have attained. Search out, therefore, these old dead bodies and get rid of them at once!

Your next dream showing the steep path you were climbing, symbolized, in a different way, what you will have to overcome before you will reach the top—the goal you are seeking. The fact that you were not conscious of the pain and discomfort caused by this rough path, proved that your soul was so eager to reach the top that you paid no attention to those little things. The loving Presence you felt was that of your Christ Self, Who is ever with you to ease the discomforts and pain felt on the Way, and at the same time to strengthen and inspire you ever onward.

When you reached the top of the mountain as symbolized in the dream, you were enabled to see what you had climbed above; to view, in the millions of lights shining, the souls down below. These lights symbolize “the Light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world,” and are God’s Spirit in men; which of course is His Life, or the outer expression of His love, as it is allowed to glow and shine in the darkness. When the darkness of the human mind knoweth Love’s meaning and purpose, it will become a Light that will light the way back into that Great Light which you were also permitted to see—that Light from “Above” which shines down upon the world, ready and eager to draw all other lights into Oneness with It.
