The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | SEPTEMBER 1934

ABOUT two years ago when I was reading The Impersonal Life for the first time, I seemed to be riding in a small toy train on a track on a flat surface; there were many other people on the train with me. Soon the train reached the foot of a mountain, where we all left it and started to walk up the mountain. As we walked upward, many fell back or turned into bypaths, the rocky and steep way proving too hard for them; so that by the time a quarter of the distance upward was reached, where there were many green trees, only I seemed to be left of the entire party that had originally started.

Then I found myself dressed in white and sitting in a wheel chair, which was being pushed upward by a man dressed in white, who did not speak to me but kept pushing me higher and higher. I wondered why I was being wheeled and was not walking myself, when I suddenly realized that my legs seemed to be paralyzed from the knees down, and so I had to be wheeled. Soon we came to a deep canyon that had to be crossed and on the other side was a thick mass of mud. I wondered how we would get across, when suddenly I found we were there and in the mud, but not sunk very deeply—just imbedded a little.

Out of my companion quickly pushed me and on up the mountain, higher and higher, when the way began to grow beautiful and much brighter. Finally we came to a place which was about as great I could hardly look at it, and then I looked to my right and there on a ledge about six feet higher was a great abundance of food of every description.

By this time I was alone, my wheel-chair and my companion gone, and as I stood and looked at this abundance of food and other things, I noticed people all dressed in white approaching taking what they wanted, all including myself seemingly happy and at peace, without care or worry of any kind.

Your vision showed you what would happen through following and living the great truths of THE IMPERSONAL LIFE; it was really a promise of what would be yours on your continuing on the way you had started. Your starting with others on what seemed to be a toy train—just a simple and enjoyable journey—soon turned out to be something important, for it brought you to the foot of a mountain of spiritual understanding which you all had to climb. But one by one the others fell behind (it took too much effort and they did not have the mental and spiritual equipment necessary) until you found yourself alone and being helped upward by your Higher Self. But that was because by this time you realized you could not yourself accomplish anything without Him to help you and that of yourself you could do nothing; that without Him to help you and you could do nothing; but with Him guiding and assisting, you could accomplish anything, as you were shown by His lifting you across the canyon and out of the mud, up and up to a place where the Light was so strong that you could see and know for yourself. There you learned the truth that all around you was an abundance of all good things, everything you needed, for all you had to do was to take and use what was before you.

This is the Kingdom of God that everyone in truth is seeking, but which very few find. May it be the final result of your studies and proving of the Impersonal Truths.
