The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1935

YOUR ESTATE

I WAS in or on a large estate of agricultural lands, and I was allotting five acre tracts to supervisors, whose business it was to train workmen to love the soil, the work, the reward of growth; and to work and show by example how things should be done. There was to be no criticism of those who came for work and were remiss in their efforts. Once a week these supervisors were to meet with me in a wonderful room and report.

It was my idea that the whole farm should improve with the same degree of efficiency and loveliness, and when anyone found his allotment of work was finished, he was to help those nearby. He was also to make known his method, so that all thoroughly understood what was desired of them.

A horde of people in plain work clothes—men, women and children, came down a stairway so closely crowded together there was no space between them. I could not see the end of this stairway, but it was massed with people as far as I could see. All were looking towards me with earnest faces—not smiling or joyous or singing, but with yearning, haunting looks, asking silently for employment. The estate seemed to have no limit, no outside fences. Then I awoke.

Try to realize that this large estate is your own consciousness and that the supervisors are your super-faculties which you have placed in charge of certain departments of your mind’s unfoldment, all of which are under your guidance and direction. The people who are coming in crowds are the thoughts and ideas continually coming to your mind to be put to work. And there is plenty of work to be done, as your consciousness is limitless to boundaries and is full of all kinds of error needs to be cleansed, beliefs that need pulling out, and then the soil needs to be fertilized, plowed and planted with the seeds of righteousness and truth.

With this explanation, try placing certain of your faculties—such as Love, Wisdom, Faith, Courage, Patience, Strength, Determination, Self-confidence and Poise—in charge of different works before you, giving them specific directions as to what you want done, knowing that being super-faculties they can do it. And then check up on them once a week. You will be surprised and pleased at the results—if you are a good manager.

TRUTH—SPIRITUAL SUBSTANCE

ONE NIGHT shortly after receiving your literature, in a sort of vision, I stood in my kitchen with my mouth very full of what seemed to be pie. The more I chewed the more full my mouth seemed to become, and I knew it would be a long time before I could take another bite, as I sensed the pie would last an eternity. The substance between the crusts was tightly packed with tiny seeds, in the center of each there being a vital spot. I thought as I was eating that I was eating life, and that the supply could not be exhausted.

In that vision that night in your kitchen, you were shown just what you are eating in taking these truths into your mind. You might say they are the desert, after having eaten of all the former teachings you had received; that is why they seemed to you like pie. Be sure that you now chew and masticate thoroughly all of this wonderful food being given you, for packed between the crusts (words) are tiny seeds of Truth, in the very center of which are vital Ideas that are Life Itself that must be built into your soul substance.
