Puzzle of his own making. For He seems first to have created a perfect picture, and then for some reason or other to have broken it up into many pieces that were scattered to the four winds; and then during countless ages of unceasing effort He has been reassembling them again, even as we do in our human game.
“Behold, we are the broken dreams of God!
We will not let Him shape us as He would;
We do resent the Master Hand; we feel
Sufficient for our own development.
It is not God who crushes all our hopes;
’Tis we who trample His within the dust.
It is not He who wrecks our every dream,
And stabs our hearts with beauty unfulfilled;
’Tis we who break the very heart of God.
Can His dreams all come true without our aid?
Can ours come true unless He works with us?
Are we not one?—Do we not each depend
Upon the other in some mystic way?*”
God’s Dream—the Picture of Creation—the Masterpiece of the Ages, was, is and always will be whole, complete, good and perfect; but the millions of pieces have not yet been fitted into their proper places, although the great Master Builder ever holds a perfect vision of the glorious completed picture in His Mind.
As a Jig Saw Puzzle is composed of many pieces, and is not complete and perfect until every piece is fitted in just where it belongs; so with God’s Dream Picture,—every soul must be perfect, in his proper place and fulfilling his individual part in mortal expression, before His
