The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JULY 1935

work for her to perform, that so appealed to self that it silenced her doubts, made her obedient to the instructions, and caused her to submit herself to their “training.”

In the course of time, as usually results, the messages began to be mixed and contradictory, and she was forced to see there was something wrong—that such things could not possibly come from Jesus. Then when they saw they could not fool her any longer, they ceased trying and showed their true nature, and she awakened up to what it was she had allowed to attach itself to her.

She happened to have the strength of character and will sufficient to attract to her through her prayers the kind helper in spirit who assisted her to free herself from the deceiving entities, on her promise not to dabble with such things again.

If one will always heed one’s feelings, as when she felt it was not Jesus but someone else speaking to her, one will never “go wrong.” Entities in spirit as well as those in the flesh can easily fool the credulous with honied words, but they cannot cover or color their vibrations. Sensitive souls can always tell the true nature of anyone talking by noting carefully how such feel to them.

It all serves to show that no one should fool with the Ouija Board, Automatic Writing, or listen to voices that play on one’s ignorance and credulity, claiming to be Jesus, Saint Mary, John, Paul, Peter or some great Master or Teacher. You may be sure that anyone who claims to be such is an imposter, for a true spiritual teacher seldom gives a name and prefers to let his message speak for itself.

There are true teachers and helpers in spirit, however; but they do not come to one except to free or save one from harm, in cases similar to the above, or when one has proved himself ready for the truth. With such, they stand by with their loving inspiration and guidance, when the mind turns within in earnest meditation and prayer. They always work with those selflessly seeking to prepare and equip themselves for the Master’s Service.
