The Inner Life

capped with a metal cap. It reminded me of a gas tank that is used when giving a patient an anesthetic. It came to me that I had been put under an anesthetic and something in that can had been used for the purpose. As I sat up in bed the can disappeared.

Into my mind came the thought, “My own Highest Self—the Christ within me—has conquered.” I kept repeating it over and over again. Then I felt as never before the real Christ within, and I gave thanks to the Father. For a long time I sat repeating, “Be still—and know, I AM—God.”

After a time I laid down again, but as soon as I was perfectly relaxed the same heavy sleep seemed to envelop me. Immediately I sat up in bed, and remained up until daylight, affirming the truth and praying. I took a short nap after day-break, but was restless, and Monday found me much exhausted.

After my friend and I talked the experience over and went into the silence together, I became much relaxed and at peace. The night was much better, but again I felt an outside force and sat up much of the night.

Tuesday afternoon we had a very inspiring and beautiful meeting at my friend’s house. At the close the other members of the group gave me help. That night I slept perfectly.

MY ONLY explanation of my experiences is that by following the instructions given in those other teachings I developed myself psychically, something that I never desired to do.
