of vital energy, and that he, himself, must be thoroughly poised, powerfully positive and wholly sure of himself. This could not be possible in a body void of the animal magnetism gained from a flesh-eating diet, especially in a cold climate. In India it is very hot and the heat and energy derived from eating meat is not needed and nature takes care of it by taking away all appetite and desire for meat. But people should take no credit for that—the credit belongs to God. Who is their life, their supply and sustenance and Who alone knows what is best for them.

For all who are concerned about the matter of eating meat or not eating, we would say:

Accept no man’s word as to what you shall eat or what you shall not eat, but listen to that Silent One within that is always trying to show you His will for you. Your real trouble is, you do not listen to Him. Yet He has been speaking to you from the beginning, but you did not know it; you preferred to listen to parents, to friends, to doctors, to outer authorities (so-called), when the only final authority for you on any subject must be that One within, your own God-Self, Who alone knows what you need and will tell you, if you will but get acquainted with Him, will wait upon Him and listen to Him.

What tells the baby, when it refuses certain foods its mother would give it, and refuses more when it has had enough—despite all efforts to induce it to eat?

The same intelligence and the same guidance is within you, and has been from babyhood, and it is ever trying to make itself felt. But the more your mind awakened and the more it listened to outer suggestions, the more it turned away from that inner guidance; because it is never insistent and usually speaks but once and, if you do not heed, you are allowed to learn by experience—the hard way.

But, dear friends, that quiet loving voice is always speaking, even when you do not hear it; telling you not only what and what not to eat, but what and what not to think, say, and do about everything in your outer and inner life.

When are you going to turn within to that wonderful God-Self and wait upon Him, and accept nothing from anyone or anything in life that He does not approve? Not until you look to Him as your sole and sure Authority and Guide in everything, can there be true and lasting health, harmony, freedom and happiness in your life.
